Bix motor

Postby doctorc » Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:10 pm

I still can't seem to lock down the speed on this platter.

After one side it is well past the 10 allowable passes/minute of the "33" or "45" on my KAB disc in.

It's always speeding up (clockwise).

Setting at 45rpm first, it's hard to lock in the speed, there isn't a lot of "room" to work with on the pot like the 33 rpm.

I guessing my motor as messed up but I checked some of the resistors awhile back after pulling them out.

I'm interested in the new motor, but have read that DC is and should be the way go with something like the Bix.

I've tried different belts, let the table warm up, and set speed with my clamp on (which seems to affect speed).

There is a darker patch (not dark but darker than the white) on the side of my platter (where the belt goes); I'm hoping the previous owner didn't get oil on it.

Maybe I should try a new platter first?

frustrated,

Hi

I am having the same problem. Unable to get the right speed and getting a bit annoyed now. Before getting frustrated, it is much appreciated if someone could advise. My questions are
1. The power switch has no indication for user to choose between 33 & 45rpm. Thus making speed adjustment a bane.

2. To lower the speed, do I need to turn the adjustment screw clockwise or anti clockwise.

3. Am I right to say the motor needs to be switch towards the left for 33 and towards the right for 45

I tried to lower the speed at 33 but it gets faster which ever way the adjustment screw being turned.

Please help.

Ok

I've sent the motor to a friend and he managed to get it work correctly.
Everything is fine now. Will be running in this weekend.

What did your friend do?

I sold my KAB strobe and bought the Digistrobo which claims my system is locked in perfectly and stays locked in rather tightly over time.

I wonder if the KAB strobe is much more sensitive/accurate or if it is too accurate; I could never dial in a stable speed with it...it was like trying to blaance an egg on a razor when setting the speed.

???

When I got the motor, it was turning quite fast for the 33rpm. As usual, I adjusted the screw on the top plate of the motor pod.
Intuitively, I turned it anti clockwise to slower the speed. To my horror it gets faster. Panicked , I turned it more and the platter almost turned into a "flying saucer". I gave up and sent it to a friend of mine who was a repair man for hifi equipment.

He managed to get it done. That's when I found out that I need to turn clockwise to reduce the speed. To be frank, I do not know what else he did. Now I am happy spinning. This is my first diy project. Some pics to share.
